pink kitchen

I was at the antique mall today, and I found the most amazing kitchen set. All I can say is PINK! It reminded me of my sis-in-law, Jess, so I had to take some pictures. Then I thought maybe there are some closet vintage pink lovers out there, so I thought I'd share with everyone.

Here is a general overview of the pink kitchen. On the left is a fridge circa 1930s which they said would be a great cupboard for linens or dishes. Clever.

So so so many pink bowls, plates, cups, utensils, etc.

I loved these old ads. Pink chiffon pie? Also notice the box of pink foil below the pictures.

This ad was my favorite. (Ads were $30 each)

By far my favorite part of the collection was the pink formica table, including a leaf. Look at the design! Only $125.

The set also had 5 iron and vinyl chairs. ($200 for the five chairs)

I love the antique mall. And I love this kitchen.

wanted: friends

Mae needs friends. Badly. She stands at the door with her ball, asks for her coat, and then asks to go "out." We go out but instead of playing at our house, she takes off. She goes up the street to other homes. She knows exactly where the other kids in the neighborhood live, and will knock on their door. If they can't play, she moves to the next house. She screams when I make her come home.

Anyone want me to babysit your child so Mae can have a friend to play with?

blogger, pleh.

Sometimes I sit down in the middle of the day to blog, and I feel totally justified doing it even though I know there are a million other things I really should do (grocery shop, dishes, clean up from yesterdays catering job, my taxes that I have committed to finish before March 15th, etc).

I sit down, upload the pictures from my camera, find the right image to use, compose the message in my head, and open up blogger. I go to upload my image, but...nothing. Blogger freezes. I freeze.
What? What's happening here?

Are there too many people on blogger in the afternoon? Is it a problem with my internet? My computer? Has Jayson rigged it all so I'll be more productive during the day? What?

Does this happen to anyone else? Do blogger and I need to stick to our midnight rendezvous?

cake

Mae had a hard time sleeping last week, due mostly to the fact that she was sick. The night of Valentines day, she ended up sleeping with Jayson in the guest room. In the morning, she helped herself out of bed, made her way to the kitchen, and found some breakfast. Isn't she responsible?

She made some good progress on the cake before either of us were coherent enough to know what was happening.

ironic?!

Isn't life funny? I had that nasty encounter with that girl last night, and I open my email this morning and read this:

Hi Guys
Can I just say WOW I hate hot dogs and our company started ordering dogs for my sales team here @ Heritage Web Solutions and WOW WE ARE HOOKED...YOUR SAUCE IS AMAZING ...THANKS AND WE WILL KEEP ORDERING...PS I love dogs now

That just tickles me to my toes.

P.S. I don't care if someone doesn't care for hot dogs or (gasp) J Dawgs at all, but what really drives me crazy is when they shove it in your face. I couldn't care less if "Meridith" never wanted to touch a hot dog, but why (WHY?) didn't she just say "nice to meet you" instead of initiating a very uncomfortable conversation? Even the yogurt girl was looking at her feet.

And Janae, I thought she might be the jealous type too, but I was holding my daughter, had my wedding ring on, and looked like I had just gotten out of bed.

some people...

I was out getting frozen yogurt tonight with Joy. I ran into an old friend. Here's our conversation:

Heidi: Hi Mark (name changed)

Mark: Hey! How are you?

Heidi: I'm great, how are you?

Mark: I'm good. Have you met my wife?

Heidi: no, I haven't....

Mark: She's right here

Heidi: (waiting for introduction, acknowledgment, ...anything). Hi, wife. I am Heidi, what is your name?

Meridith: "Meridith" (scowling)

Heidi: (uhhhh, okay. No hello...no smile...nothing).

Meridith: How do you know Mark?

Heidi: J Dawgs

Mark: High School

Heidi: well, both I guess

Meridith: Oh, Mark is always telling me about J Dawgs...(sweet, a loyal customer)...He is always telling me that I need to go...(that's nice, I'm flattered)...and I say "no way"...(excuse me?)...I totally HATE hot dogs...(huh? what? hold on here)...I think they are so gross...(did I just hear that right?)

friend with them: OH! Give me five! I totally hate hot dogs too. I think they are so nasty. I don't know how anyone eats them.

Mark: Heidi owns J Dawgs.

Heidi: Um, yeah I do.

Meridith and friend: (despite hearing that we OWN a hot dog stand and make our living selling hot dogs, continue talking about how much they hate hot dogs).

wife of friend: I don't like hot dogs either, but I love J Dawgs. They are the only ones I'll eat (finally, someone with something positive to say).

Heidi: yeah, a lot of people say they don't like hot dogs but they like J Dawgs actually.

Meridith: Oh, not me. I really don't like hot dogs...(is there a reason she keeps insisting she despises my entire life?)

Heidi: (still baffled) ok, well, see you later. Sure was nice to meet you.

I should have got her number because I'm sure we'd be best friends. We totally hit it off.

Actually, I hope she chokes on a piece of lettuce.

Some people....

scout widow

Jayson is leaving again tonight on a scout camp out, and I am a scout widow once again. This will be our third weekend in seven weeks, so almost every other week he has been gone.
We are really grateful for his callings (scout master and young mens president), as they give him amazing opportunities to serve. He loves being with the boys and helping them be involved in a program that meant so much to him growing up. He still enjoys camping, and cooking, and everything involved with the scouts.

But the poor man has no time for himself. He has spent every second outside of work this week preparing for mutual on Wednesday, and this camping trip. Today he'll leave early from work and be gone until Saturday afternoon, at which time he will most likely crash on our bed because he'll be so exhausted. He has meetings, choir practice, church, etc on Sunday. Then it starts all over again next week.

I'm not really trying to complain...he loves it and I don't mind him spending time with the Scouts/Young Men. But we just need to find a way to get him some down time!

Instead of going out on the town tonight, I think I'll work on our taxes. What an exciting weekend for us!

sous chef: mae

Mae is always interested in what is going on, especially if it is happening in the kitchen. If Jayson or I are cooking, she comes right on over, steps on our feet, and whines until we pick her up and put her on a chair next to us. She loves it when we put on her apron and let her be a part of the action. I think we have another foodie in the family.

The other day she helped make peach dump cake. Come along for our culinary journey!

The first step: dump a box of cake mix into a dutch oven. Or beautiful red pot. Whatever you got.

See how expertly she dumps? Ok, so she is really holding an empty box and this picture is staged, but I believe she really did dump the cake mix in the beginning.

Add some canned peaches and some soda, and you have the perfect boy scout desert (served at all of Jayson's camp outs with his scouts).

Mae says, "It looks like we're ready to put it into a 350 degree oven. But wait!"

"First, we must make see how it tastes.... "

"And, ummm...."

"This cake is delicious! Perfect! I approve, Dad. And, its a good thing I put my whole hand in the pot to tie me over until its done baking!"

We can't believe how quickly Mae is growing up and how much she is able to contribute. I am really happy she loves to be a part of the action, because I feel like I might actually be teaching her things she needs and likes to learn. Lets hope that continues!

blog it.

Jayson refuses to contribute to our blog. Its ok too, because its my thing. I mean, I would love it if he would post every now and then, but I'm not hurt or offended that he doesn't want to blog.

But what cracks me up is he insists I take pictures of things, and instructs me to "blog it." I think most of the time he's making fun of me, but sometimes he is really serious...like in the case of the photo below.

We have no idea who these men are.

We saw them at Costco. They are napping while, presumably, their wives are shopping. Or maybe they found the furniture to be amazingly comfortable. Whatever happened, Jayson thought it was so funny that he had to take a picture of it. And he requested that I share it with you. It is pretty funny...two guys napping in Costco?!

But I'm sure Jayson's version of this story would have been much funnier. Do you all want to hear from Jayson?

see you, mitt.

We're sad to see Mitt Romney drop out of the presidential race. We were hesitant to vote for him at first, on the basis that he was LDS like us. As it got closer to our day to vote (Super Tuesday), we felt more and more like he was the best candidate.

Now that he's gone, I just might vote for Obama. Or really start thinking seriously about Hillary...because I'm not sure I care for McCain at all. And, I'm not really a die hard republican anyway.

Canasta...spanish for basket.

Jayson and I play a lot of Canasta. When I say a lot, I really mean several games a night. We get in our p.j.'s, sit on our bed, and bring out the cards. It gets pretty tricky on the bed, so we often bring our full size mirror and it acts as our table. When I was pregnant with Mae, we would play rummie every night. Canasta is our new fav. These are the memories I'll cherish.

In case you were wondering, I win most of the time. But when Jayson wins, he wins by a lot.

tag, i'm it.

I've been avoiding this for awhile, but now I've been tagged BY NAME, so I'm pretty sure I can't avoid it. But its okay because I like this tag better than most the other ones I've seen.

A. The rules of the game are posted at the beginning. B. Each player answers the questions about themselves. C. At the end of the post, the player then tags 5 people and posts their names then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know that they have been tagged and asking them to read your blog (confession, I'm not sure I'll do C).

10 years ago.... I was 16, a junior at Timpview, trying to find my place but not succeeding, working at the dry cleaners, and figuring out how to graduate early from High School. Lets just say those weren't the glory days.

Five things on my to do list today.... Only five? Today is busy.... Take Elda to her doctor's appointment (check), vote (check), take J Dawg's deposit to the bank, meet Eden Robert and congratulate John and Anne, exercise before I watch Biggest Loser so I don't feel guilty, clean out my fridge (check) and go grocery shopping, finish piecing my quilt, etc.

Snacks I enjoy... chocolate, peanut butter, ice cream, candy, chocolate/peanut butter candy, and chocolate/peanut butter candy ice cream.

If i suddenly became a billionaire.... Find a really old house with an incredibly large kitchen, dining area, and family area, then deck out the kitchen with every gadget imaginable. Pay off all of my families houses and donate a bucket load to suffering children and families all over the world.

5 bad habits..... Pop my zits, bite my nails, sleep in, continuous snacking/eating, and blog stalk.

5 jobs I have had... MOM (best job ever), J Dawgs employee of the decade, shopped for clothing to give to the foreign missionaries at the MTC, promotions manager at the Museum of Peoples and Cultures, river guide in Moab.

5 things most people don't know about me....1) I think I want to have a large family, 2) I L-o-o-o-o-o-o-ve to cook and eat and throw parties, 3) I dream constantly of what I would do if I had a career, but realize I am happiest when I am with Mae, 4) think my husband is way cuter than yours, and 5) uhhh...I only vacuum every six months or so (GASP) (we only have 2 rooms with carpet--one being the guest room, but still, its pretty nappy I know....).

I'm not calling anyone out by name (SANDRA), but if you have wanted (JOY) to do this and just felt (BECKY) like you needed the excuse to do it, here is your chance.
