Don't bother me, I'm busy.

Don't call me. Don't write me. Don't come by my house. Don't bother me. I'm busy. Busy with this:

Or if you do call, write, or come by, please be warned that I may not hear a word you say.

I can't think of a word to describe how I feel about the Olympics. The best I can come up with is I loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove the Olympics. Original, right?

I love the Olympics so much that:
1. I signed us up for cable after not having it for almost a year. And I had to get all 974 channels and DVR so I didn't miss a thing.
2. I woke up at 2:30 Friday morning to watch the rebroadcast of the opening ceremonies, because I missed it due to a catering job (cable wasn't installed until Sat AM).
3. I sobbed through the opening ceremonies.
4. Watching me tell you about the opening ceremonies is probably more entertaining than watching it yourself.
5. I spend every second that I'm not watching TV (which is few and far between) reading about the Olympics.
6. I only want to leave my house if I can go somewhere and watch the Olympics.
7. Jayson and I simultaneously yell at the TV "come on!" "move it" and "stick that landing" like we're there and the Olympians can hear us.
8. I want to know everyone's story. Like did you know there is a swimmer from Palestine who has not trained in an Olympic sized pool because they don't have one in Palestine?

I could go on and on....

I've always loved the Olympics, but I feel a special connection to them since I was a volunteer in 2002. I feel like I'm closer to them. Like I'm an insider, or expert, or OLYMPIAN myself.

I remember riding trax to SLC during the games in 2002 and hearing a lady describe herself as "an Olympic boob." I laughed at her. Now, I fear, I AM the Olympic boob.

So if you want to hear from me in the next 15 days, you may just have to come to my house and watch some Olympics with me. But I promise we'll have a good time. I'm totally emotional and giddy, and sometimes totally crazy. It's a blast.

Bring on the games!

I sooooooo love that you got cable just to watch the Olympics!! If I were there (and didn't have three needy children) I would seriously watch every single event at your house. I'm such a sucker for sports!

ps. Okay, did the little 2nd grader who survived the Szechwan earthquakes make you cry when he helped lead in the Chinese athletes? Or am I a total cry baby??

An Olympic Boob huh? Interesting. I love the Olympics too- it's the only time I really dream about the "what ifs???" or "could have's", as in, what if I started training at two years old, could I have been an olympic swimmer or had the grace of an olympic diver? If I start training Noah to swim right now, could he eventually be an olympic swimmer and beat Phelps world record? Spencer and I are both so thankful for DVR too and ooooh, high def., these games in high def are just amazing. It's almost as if we were there at the event...almost. Anyhow, if you care to know, my sister in law is in China right now, and she scored tickets to one of the mens semi-finals games, a table tennis match and a womens gymnastics meet. How totally cool is that?! I'm a bit sad she didn't think to ask me 2 years ago if I wanted to go with her- then I would have had enough time to save the money and find a babysitter for all three of my kids. Oh well-I'm hoping she'll at least remember us and bring us home something cool from China & the games. I can hope for that much right?

Hey there--I had no idea about your love of the olympics! I also have a total thing for the games. Ever since I was a child, I've gotten smitten whenever the games come around. Its like this whole other creature comes out in me and I get really emotional. And then I always end up super sad because I never got started early enough in life to get to the level of an olympic athlete! You've got me on a roll....maybe I'll just blog about it, in honor of you!

Oh my, we are two peas in a pod! I can't get enough of the games either. Seriously, why can't the Olympics happen every year?

It's too bad we don't live closer or else I'd pack my bags and move in for the next two weeks or so.
