rex lee run

I did it. I ran my 5K. And I have the shirt to prove it.

But really, we had a good time. Kendra ran it with me, and it turns out we were perfect running buddies. We ran our little hearts out. I did feel like I was going to die the last mile, but I'm not sure WHY I'd feel like that considering I started running 3 weeks ago.

My goal was to run it in 31 minutes, or about a 10 minute mile. I've run races at that pace before, so I thought it was attainable. Unfortunately, I still have some training to do because I clocked in at 32:46. I need to shave about 30 seconds off my mile. Thankfully I have until May 17th to do it, when Joy, Deb, Teresa, Katy, and I are running with angels.

Here are Kendra and I at the finish line.

Our friend Steve (an AMAZING runner) asked me the other day if I enjoy running. Without much hesitation, I responded "no." Who really does? But we do it, don't we? I don't think it's fun at all, but it is the easiest way to work into an exercise routine. Its almost free, it requires almost no special equipment, its quicker than going to a gym, etc.

What I do actually love about the whole process is going farther and working harder than I did the previous run. I love the feeling of satisfaction of having accomplished a workout. I love it when Lance Armstrong congratulates me on having accomplished "my farthest workout to date." He's got a nice man voice.

But most of all, I love my iPod with Nike+. It makes it all bearable.

Yay for you!! I think 10 minute miles are FAST - I usually do 12-13 min miles. So I'm impressed you did it as fast as you did! Samuel and I were supposed to do Rex Lee, but he was playing soccer in bare feet a couple days before and got cleated, so he could hardly walk. And I'm too wimpy to do it without him.

BTW, I don't like running either. I like the sense of accomplishment, I like how I feel healthy when I'm doing it regularly, and I like how I look in the mirror. But I really hate the actual running. Honestly, does anyone really love it?!

Good job!!! You're totally right about running. I know ONE person who actually enjoys the "sport". But she is insane if you ask me.
;-) Seriously. She runs 10-12 miles a day and thinks nothing of it.
But when you are able to feel yourself getting in good shape, and able to run further and/or faster than you did during the last workout, it's that sense of accomplishment that feels the greatest.

I don't know, I don't think I've ever worked out so hard that I had that endorphine rush that athletes get.

Congratulations Heidi! I just did a 6k with my friend on the weekend, but we came in at 47:53. Even at home I only do a 12 minute mile. You are flying! Good job with the weight watchers too - you look amazing!

I am so happy for you. You are the best. I really like your hair style - what a special gift from Brazil, to Portugal to your Rex Lee run. Please send me e-mails to remind me when you update your blog. I'm falling behind.

Heidi--

Way to go! I would have to agree that running is a "rare moments" kind of thing for me, too. I might enjoy it 10% of the time. And that's a generous estimate. The rest of the time I'm looking forward to how I'll feel when I'm done and laying on my back at home, trying very hard not to move any little part of my body. THAT is a good feeling.

Heidi, it's me, Momma Robert! You are amazing!!! A 10 minute mile after 3 weeks? I've been training for 3 years now and can't do that...OK, so (shhhh)I'm more than double your age, but that is no excuse. Chiquita, you ROCK! When are you bringing the family for dinner?

Congratulations on running your first 5k!! That is awesome and I'm impressed that you are going to do it again! Is the "Running with Angels" from the book? I really need to re-read it and get going with some WW, too so maybe I can look half as good as you!
