kite flying

today was 60 something degrees, sunny, beautiful, and windy.

perfect weather to fly a kite. specifically, the red baron kite. we loaded up in the truck and headed down to a park (most parks down here are tree-less), and let the red baron loose.

for a $10 kite from costco, she didn't do too badly.

jayson nor i haven't flown a kite in probably 20 years, so we were a little shaky on the details.

mae didn't care.

but then we really got the hang of it. let all the line out.

let it go, man.

fly it high.

(turns out i'm pretty good at this).

mae loved it.

i think we should go get her here own princess kite.

did i mention let it fly high?

mae started to get tired...

so we called it an afternoon and went to sonic...

perfect. afternoon.

I have this thing with kite flying. I think it is sooooo romantic. Not in a mushy way, in a classic, lovely sort of way. So I think it is really cool that you guys went. Once again, Mae is so grown up and incredibly beautiful. But you already knew that. :)

it was gorgeous. isaac and Hazel took our dollar store kites and ran around the yard with them. i think it's time to get another load of them. (i bought like 8 of them last year so i didn't have to worry about breaking anything and neighbors could have one, too)

I want to go fly a kite. But I have to admit, I'm mostly jealous to see you in shorts when we just got dumped on with snow!

Looks like fun! It gets so windy here in Ellensburg that when we fly kites, there's a good possibility that you'll end up in the next county.

Is there anything better than spending time with your family!?

One of my all time favorite things to do is fly kites. I used to make my own kites when I was a boy and we would fly them at incredible heights... once we had over 2000 feet of string out! We eventually cut the string and watched the kite fall out of site a long ways away! I have pictures of the boys and me flying kites together in the field next to our house on Tenino Street... I don't know if Jayson remembers or not... those were great times. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
